OpenAI has officially rolled out its first branded hardware device, the Codex Micro, a specialized RGB-lit mini-keyboard priced at $230. This limited-run collaboration with hardware manufacturer Work Louder is designed to provide users with a dedicated tool for monitoring and quickly interacting with multiple Codex AI agents. The launch comes amidst ongoing speculation about OpenAI's potential ventures into other hardware, including personalized smart speakers.

The Codex Micro differentiates itself from Work Louder's existing Creator Micro line through six frosted keys in its top two rows. These keys offer color-coded live feedback on up to six individual Codex threads, even when they are not actively displayed on screen. The visual feedback system is intuitive: keys cycle from white when a thread is idle, to blue when the AI agent is processing, and green upon task completion. Furthermore, the keys can flash amber to indicate that human feedback or a decision is required, and red if a thread encounters an error, allowing users to quickly identify and address tasks needing immediate attention. A simple tap on a lit-up button brings the relevant Codex window to the forefront.
